Apple surprised everyone by unveiling "one more thing" – the Apple Vision Pro during WWDC23, about seven months ago. On January 19, the official Apple website listed the Apple Vision Pro headset for pre-order, and it officially went on sale on February 2. Concurrently, Apple also introduced the corresponding accessory – the Apple Vision Pro Battery – offering users an unconstrained, extended mixed reality experience.
The Apple Vision Pro, launched on June 6, 2023, is Apple's first mixed reality headset, featuring an external screen and dual internal screens. This marks the first VR headset with such a configuration. It integrates the M2 processor and the newly developed R1 chip, delivering robust computing power to handle information from over ten cameras and sensors. For power, an external power source was chosen to alleviate the weight on the wearer's head.
However, this potentially groundbreaking device still weighs between 21.2 to 22.9 ounces (600 to 650 grams) depending on the Light Seal and headband configuration. By comparison, the Meta Quest Pro, a high-end product in the same series with a large battery, weighs only 25.5 ounces (722 grams).
In terms of power interface, the Apple Vision Pro's power input port is located on the side of the device and features a distinctive circular magnetic port. The inside of the port includes a three-stage positioning ring, ensuring a secure fit to prevent loosening.
The circular power cable plug is made of metal and inserted into the power interface at a 45-degree angle. Once pressed, it is then rotated to a horizontal position to secure it. An LED indicator on the cable plug illuminates to confirm normal power supply. The cable itself features a soft and flexible woven material for durability.
Regarding the battery, the Apple Vision Pro Battery is crafted from smooth aluminum alloy, presenting a flat and rounded overall appearance extending to the edges – a top-tier texture among power banks. Additionally, it features the classic Apple logo imprint, resembling the overall feeling of a MacBook casing.
For users who enjoy moving indoors or have outdoor usage needs, the Apple Vision Pro Battery can be conveniently carried in a pocket or backpack, allowing users to experience mixed reality without being confined by power limitations.
As for the connectivity, the side of the device includes a USB-C charging port, along with an embedded braided cable for powering the Apple Vision Pro.
In terms of battery life, according to official information, the Apple Vision Pro Battery can provide 2 hours of general usage or 2.5 hours of video playback. While 2 hours might be sufficient for extremely light usage, in most cases, it is definitely not enough. Therefore, the Apple Vision Pro Battery can be charged on the go by connecting to additional chargers or power devices, enabling all-day usage.
