Affordable Power | MOVESPEED 140W PD3.1 Charger Hits the Market

The PD3.1 fast charging standard is a significant advancement, boosting the power delivery capabilities of USB-C ports beyond what's achievable with the prevalent PD3.0. When integrated into multi-port chargers, it allows for more seamless and efficient allocation of power across devices. Despite its impressive performance benefits, the higher cost associated with PD3.1 chargers tends to discourage many prospective buyers from investing in them.

On December 27, 2023, MOVESPEED launched a new PD3.1 charger, the 140W 3C1A GaN Charger, on China's TikTok e-commerce platform at an affordable price of 199 yuan ($28). For those of you who don't know, MOVESPEED is a consumer electronics brand similar to Baseus, specializing in manufacturing and selling mobile accessories and gadgets.

In fact, MOVESPEED and the well-known brand AOHi belong to the same parent company, both dedicated to innovating and designing consumer-loved electronic products. At a critical juncture where PD3.1 fast charging is becoming more prevalent, the MOVESPEED 140W PD3.1 Charger, priced at 199 yuan ($28) on the TikTok platform, aims to expand the user base for this new generation of fast charging.

The MOVESPEED 140W GaN Charger, model YSFCG107-140, showcases the distinctive cyber fluorescent color scheme of the MOVESPEED fast-charging lineup. It offers two color options—prominent phantom green and lava yellow. The charger features diagonal stripe patterns on both sides and the base, embellished with traditional Chinese characters like "電" (electricity) and "140W". For convenient travel, it employs foldable prongs for input, accommodating a wide voltage range of 100 - 240V ~ 50 / 60Hz, eliminating concerns about voltage compatibility during cross-regional travel.

On the inside, the charger adopts Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology, providing advantages like high frequency, efficiency, and lower temperature compared to conventional silicon-based chargers. Its compact dimensions measure 74.6 x 74.5 x 31.9mm, equaling 177.29cm³, 20% smaller than standard 140W chargers. Calculating based on the rated power of 140W, its power density is approximately 0.79W/cm³.

Performance-wise, it boasts four output ports—three USB-C fast charging ports and one USB-A fast charging port. USB-C1 supports the PD3.1 fast charging standard, offering five common PD3.0 PDOs—5V3A / 9V3A / 12V3A / 15V3A / 20V5A—and supports 28V5A PD3.1, providing up to 140W high-power fast charging output, meeting the fast charging needs of MacBook Pro 16".

USB-C2 supports 100W fast charging output, USB-C3 supports 20W output, and USB-A supports 22.5W output. In terms of protocols, it supports commonly used fast charging protocols in the market like PD, PPS, QC, FCP, SCP, AFC, ensuring compatibility with mainstream products.

As a multi-port charger, it holds the advantage of "one-to-many" compared to original single-port chargers bundled with digital devices, supporting charging for up to four devices simultaneously. During simultaneous charging of multiple devices, it automatically adjusts the output performance based on the devices plugged in, employing power allocation strategies like 100W+20W, 65W+45W+20W, allowing one charger to power up to four devices.

For user convenience, the product package includes a "Power Fast Charge Cable" in the same color scheme as the charger. The cable type is USB-C to USB-C, featuring a reinforced core for better current transmission and a wear-resistant braided exterior, supporting up to 140W PD3.1 power transmission specifications.

Summary of ChargerLAB

In summary, the MOVESPEED 140W GaN Charger features a trendy exterior design, offering four ports (3C1A) and supporting the new PD3.1 fast charging standard. Compared to traditional chargers, it excels in high power, multiple output ports, and a compact size. Crucially, this product is priced at only 199 yuan ($28) in China, nearly half the price of other PD3.1 chargers on the market, similar to PD3.0 100W chargers.

Compared to common PD3.0 100W chargers, it supports full-power fast charging for PD3.1 devices like the MacBook Pro 16". Additionally, owing to the higher power limit, when charging multiple devices, the available power per device is higher. It also prepares users in advance for future PD3.1 device launches, staying ahead in the tech race.

Currently, the MOVESPEED 140W GaN Charger is available for purchase only on the TikTok "MOVESPEED Official Flagship Store" in China, priced at 199 yuan ($28). Interested individuals can follow ChargerLAB for updates on its release in other countries.
