Since acquiring Sony’s battery business, MURATA Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has leveraged its deep technical expertise to become a major force in the lithium-ion battery sector. Its recently launched flagship cylindrical cell, the US21700-VX40, has captured significant industry attention. With a nominal capacity of 4.0Ah (4000mAh), its core advantage lies in the integration of an advanced tabless structure. Encased in a standardized steel shell and green heat-shrink film, this design overcomes the physical bottlenecks of traditional single-tab cells—specifically high internal resistance and severe heat generation during high-rate charging—successfully balancing high energy density with ultra-fast power delivery.

Performance. Thanks to the shortened electronic pathways provided by tabless technology, the MURATA US21700-VX40 demonstrates dominant performance across physical and electrochemical metrics. Precise measurements show a height of approximately 69.7mm, a diameter of 21.3mm, and a weight of 65.3g. The positive flat-top cap features an alloy construction with three pressure-relief vents for explosion safety, while the negative terminal utilizes anodized alloy for corrosion resistance. In core tests, the AC internal resistance was measured at just 4.44mΩ, establishing a solid hardware foundation for high-current discharge. In charging tests, performance remained stable at low rates (0.2C to 1C); at a 1C standard fast charge, peak power reached 16.8W, hitting 50% capacity in 31 minutes. At a 2C (8000mA) rate, it took only 15 minutes to reach 50%. Under extreme 3C (12A) super-charging conditions, peak power surged to 50.3W, reaching 20% in 4 minutes and 50% in just 10 minutes (7.98Wh energy input). A full charge was completed in 51 minutes, confirming the cell meets advanced "1050 fast-charging standards."

The test data for the MURATA US21700-VX40 underscores its status as a benchmark in its category. The 4.44mΩ impedance ensures that internal losses and lithium-plating heat are suppressed within safe limits during high-rate (12A) continuous charging, thereby guaranteeing long cycle life and durability. With its precise structural integrity, robust steel casing, and the capability to recover 50% capacity in 10 minutes, this 21700 cell is perfectly suited for high-end portable outdoor power stations, smart digital devices, and professional drones. Furthermore, it offers a high-safety-margin, high-efficiency battery solution for high-concurrency and high-discharge scenarios such as power tools and high-load small motive equipment.
