When it comes to photography, we will think of the camera, lens, flash, tripod, filter, etc. There are all the important components of photography. The flash can change the intensity and angle of light. Although many novices do not know how to use flash, the flash is indispensable for the experienced photographer. Canon recently launched a new lithium battery flash SPEEDLITE EL-1, which uses lithium batteries as the power supply source. Compared with the traditional AA battery flash, it has quicker recycling speed and longer battery life, and other components have improved as well.

Canon has launched various Speedlite flashes, including 600EX II-RT, 470EX-AI, 430EX III-RT and other models for different occasions. The EL-1 flash is Canon’s new generation of professional flashes. The biggest difference compared with others is lithium batteries. The size of Speedlite EL-1 flash is about 84.4×149×136.4mm, and the weight is about 572g without battery. The flash head can be rotated 120° up, 7° down, 180° left/right, and the guide number reaches GN60.

Red Circle

Among all Canon’s lens systems, Canon Luxury lenses represent the highest optical quality. The red circle is purposely set in front of Luxury lenses. The Speedlite EL-1 flash also has a red circle in front of the flash, which means it has top quality and performance.

Universal Charger of Lithium Battery

Traditional flashes generally use four AA batteries as power supply. For high-power flash, the four AA batteries can provide about 4Wh~8Wh energy depending on the battery model. The power will be quickly consumed under high frequency. And the AA battery needs to use a special charger, which is hard to carry on, and the charging speed is also slow.

Canon Speedlite EL-1 flash is powered by an LP-EL lithium battery. The battery has two built-in lithium batteries to form a battery pack. Its full voltage is 8.4V, which can provide continuous high-power output. The LP-EL lithium battery has a capacity of 1920mAh (14Wh). Compared with AA batteries, the battery life is greatly increased. Besides that, the lithium battery is charged with a common Canon camera charger. Users do not need to carry an additional flash battery charger, which is quite convenient.

Quick Recycling Time

When we use the camera on important occasions such as weddings and celebrations, it is necessary to frequently use the flash to quickly capture the picture. The Canon Speedlite EL-1 flash with lithium battery has quick recycling speed, and the recycling time is only about 0.1 to 0.9 seconds. To make sure the long-term stable use, the flash has a built-in turbofan cooling system, the number of continuous flashes can reach 160 times, and the total number of flashes can be up to 355 times under the full-power flash state, which can meet the use of high-load occasions.

Easier Control

Canon Speedlite EL-1 flash uses cross-shaped control keys to quickly set the flash mode, zoom, flash compensation and other settings. The convenient control allows photographers to react quickly. The simple UI on the LCD screen displays can show different settings and displays the remaining power, which is convenient for the photographer to replace the battery without guessing it.

Low Power of 1/8192

When shooting portraits at night, you need to use a flash. In complex low-light scenes, the performance of the flash is extremely demanding. In the past, even the top flash model, the minimum power only supports 1/128 power Output (about 1/37020 seconds), which often causes the problem of overexposure of portraits. Canon Speedlite EL-1 flash supports up to 1/8192 low power output (1/107800 second), which can shoot portraits with extremely weak light, and brighten portraits without destroying the night look of the picture.

Summary by ChargerLAB

Canon Speedlite EL-1 has Fast recycling speed, low power of 1/8192 and longer battery life. You don’t need to carry an additional charger.
