Review of Mcdodo 100W Dual USB-C Fast Charging Cable with LED Display
Introduction
ChargerLAB has previously reviewed many cables, which, when paired with the POWER-Z KM003C, can display information such as power, current, voltage, protocol, temperature, and cable type. But what if you're just an average user who wants to know real-time charging power? In that case, the Mcdodo 100W Dual USB-C Fast Charging Cable with LED Display might be more suitable for you. In this detailed analysis and testing conducted by ChargerLAB, let's take a closer look at the specific results!
Product Appearance
The packaging box follows Mcdodo's classic orange and white color scheme, with the brand's initials "M" in the upper left corner and the three main selling points in the center.
The back of the box displays the specs info. The model is CA-882. It's made of zinc alloy and nylon, and the product's official name is "Digital Pro 100W PD Fast Charge Type-C to Type-C Data Cable". It can support a maximum current of 5A, and has passed CE certification.
It contains an instruction manual and the cable itself.
The cable is made of black nylon braided material, and is secured with black fabric magic tape.
The USB-C connector is made of high-purity zinc alloy, which is corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant, and the junction between the cable and the connector is reinforced with injection molding.
The word "100W" is located under the LED display.
For example, when charging laptops with this cable, the LED display shows the real-time charging power as 69W, pretty intuitive.
The ChargerLAB POWER-Z KM003C shows that it's a USB 3.2/USB4 Gen2 (10Gb/20Gb) cable with a power transmission of 20V5A.
The length of the cable is about 128cm (4.20 ft).
The diameter is approximately 3.8mm (0.15 inches).
And the weight is 42g (1.48 oz).
Product Review
The test mainly focuses on two aspects: functional testing and quality testing. The former mainly tests whether the cable supports specific functions; the latter mainly tests the internal quality of the cable. Now let's take a look at the test results in terms of its functionality.
Fast Charging
Using the UGREEN 140W GaN charger with the cable to charge a Samsung S22+, it shows the charging power at 42W.
When switching to a 16-inch MacBook Pro M1 Max 2021, the charging power reaches 100W, demonstrating support for high-wattage fast charging.
Data Transmission
Connecting the cable to the USB-C port of a MacBook Pro M2 2022 and an Acasis hard drive enclosure containing a Samsung 970 EVO SSD, we tested the transfer speed using Disk Speed Test. The measured write speed is approximately 38MB/s, and the read speed is around 38.3MB/s, which complies with the USB 2.0 data transfer standard instead of USB4 we just tested.
Video Transmission
Connecting the cable to the USB-C port of a MacBook Pro M2 2022 and a monitor, it was unable to activate the display, indicating that the cable does not support video transmission.
Voltage Drop Test
Voltage drop test is an important factor to measure the quality of the cable. During daily use, when the charger outputs the voltage and current to one end of the cable, it passes through the cable to the other end, which creates the voltage drop.
Connect the cable to the power supply and the electrical load, respectively. And we will test the voltage drop value under different voltage and current. Here is the result.
We also draw them into a chart. The largest voltage drop occurs at the 20V5A, which is 0.72V. With a current of 3A, the voltage drop ranges from 0.43V to 0.45V, and with a current of 1A, the voltage drop ranges from 0.15V to 0.17V.
