Introduction

Have you ever noticed a peculiar trend in the world of smartphones since their inception? Despite the continuous increase in battery capacity, the battery life doesn't seem to keep up, especially when compared to the era of basic phones. Modern smartphones are increasingly focused on background app retention, and apps themselves tend to incorporate more and more new features. While this undoubtedly brings convenience, it also leads to shorter battery life, a recurring headache for users.

In the realm of smartphones today, the iPhone is undoubtedly one of the most important players. However, specific information about the battery capacity of the iPhone series is not available on the official Apple website. Instead, you'll find only basic information like video or audio playback time. Considering the multitude of tasks people use their smartphones for nowadays, this approach is clearly not user-friendly. Therefore, ChargerLAB has compiled a list of iPhone battery capacities over the years. So, how much has it changed?

- iPhone 15: 3349mAh

- iPhone 15 Plus: 4383mAh

- iPhone 15 Pro: 3274mAh

Thanks to titanium alloy construction, the iPhone 15 series is lighter than the previous generation, and there are also several new color options.

Summary of ChargerLAB

Here's a summary of the battery capacities of all iPhone models over the years:

From iPhone 2G to iPhone 15 Pro Max: A Battery Journey-Chargerlab

From 2007 to 2023, the iPhone with the largest theoretical battery capacity (iPhone 15 Pro Max) had 3272mAh more capacity than the smallest (iPhone 3G), equivalent to an additional iPhone 15 Pro's worth of battery capacity.

From iPhone 2G to iPhone 15 Pro Max: A Battery Journey-Chargerlab

When organizing the data into a bar chart (in release order, excluding SE), you can see that the iPhone 15 Pro Max narrowly takes the lead with a theoretical capacity of 4422mAh. Although this falls somewhat short of mainstream Android phone battery capacities, it's important to note that battery capacity doesn't solely determine battery life, and iPhone's power management is renowned in the industry. Therefore, users who prioritize battery life can make their choices based on the battery capacity data from recent years.

Furthermore, after over a decade of development, the battery capacities of different iPhone models were sufficient for their respective years, but they cannot be compared directly to today's standards. They are provided here for analytical reference. ChargerLAB will also conduct unboxing and charging tests soon, so interested readers can look forward to the performance of the new iPhone models.
