Introduction
The retractable fast car chargers have become popular among consumers thanks to their convenient pull-to-use design, adjustable cable length, and tangle-free storage — eliminating the need to carry extra cables. Responding to market demand, UGREEN has released several retractable charging products and extended this design to car chargers, launching three models with power outputs of 60W, 90W, and 145W.

In this teardown, we’ll take a closer look at UGREEN’s 90W retractable car charger. It features a 70cm retractable USB-C cable along with both a USB-A and a USB-C port, supporting up to 60W and 30W output, respectively. With a combined 60W + 30W output strategy, it can fast charge a laptop and a smartphone at the same time—greatly enhancing the user experience and charging efficiency during travel. Let’s dive into the internal design and build quality of this product.

Teardown
Next, let's take it apart to see its internal components and structure.

The decorative panel is removed to reveal that the internal structure is secured with screws.

After removing the screws and opening the black panel, the internal PCBA module is revealed.

The PCBA module is secured in place using screws and mounting posts.

The red and black input wires are soldered directly to the PCB.

After removing the top panel, a magnet is embedded in the recessed area, and a light-guiding plastic piece is positioned near the USB ports.

Remove the PCB and cable module.

Remove the small PCB of the input end.

The small PCB at the input end is used only to assist with soldering the positive and negative metal contacts and wires.

There are no components on either the front or back sides.

On the front of the PCBA module, components like inductors and capacitors are reinforced with adhesive. The retractable cable module connects to the PCB via a flat cable, and the solder joints are also secured with adhesive.

On the front side, there are two voltage regulation circuits with corresponding inductors and filter capacitors, as well as the protocol chip for the two ports.

On the back side, there are controllers for the two voltage regulation circuits, synchronous buck-boost MOSFETs, the protocol chip for the USB-C retractable cable, and the output VBUS MOSFET.

The solid capacitor for input filtering has a specification of 35V 220μF.

The synchronous buck-boost controller used for the USB-C retractable cable is the PL5501 from Powlicon. It supports a wide input voltage of up to 32V and a continuous load current of 20A. It operates in buck, buck-boost, and boost modes using constant on-time control for excellent load and line regulation. The switching frequency is programmable at 150kHz, 300kHz, 600kHz, or 1.2MHz. The controller comes in a QFN 4x4-32 package.

The four synchronous buck-boost MOSFETs are from Adamant, model AD40N55D3. These are N-channel MOSFETs with a voltage rating of 40V and an on-resistance of 4.5mΩ. They come in a PDFN 3x3 package.

The matched buck-boost inductor is reinforced with adhesive at the core and insulated with a heat-shrink tube.

The specification of the solid capacitor for output filtering is 25V 220μF.

The protocol chip for the USB-C retractable cable is the IP2723T from Injoinic. This chip is USB-IF certified for PD3.0 PPS (TID: 3135) and is a multi-protocol fast-charging IC designed for USB output ports. It supports a wide range of fast-charging protocols, including USB Type-C DFP, PD2.0/3.0, PPS, HVDCP QC4, QC4+, QC3.0/2.0, FCP, SCP, AFC, MTK PE+ 2.0/1.1, Apple 2.4A, BC1.2, and Samsung 2.0A.
It provides a complete Type-C solution for one-way output applications such as adapters and car chargers. Additionally, the IP2723T features high integration and rich functions, requiring minimal external components during application, which effectively reduces the overall solution size and lowers BOM costs.

Here is the information about Injoinic IP2723T.

The VBUS MOSFET is from Vergiga, model VS3618BE. It is an N-channel MOSFET with a voltage rating of 30V and an on-resistance of 5.2mΩ. The package type is PDFN 3x3x3.

Summary of ChargerLAB

Here is the component list of the UGREEN Nexode Car Charger 90W with Retractable USB‑C Cable for your convenience.
Its design is stylish and highly recognizable. The included USB-C retractable cable uses upgraded high-strength TPE material, which has passed over 10,000 pull and bend tests. This ensures the cable is flexible, tangle-free, and much more durable. Under both 12V and 24V input conditions, the retractable cable and the two USB ports can each deliver up to 60W and 30W output, respectively, with a total power of 90W. The ports also have built-in indicator lights for convenient use at night.
After taking it apart, we found that it features two voltage regulation circuits. The USB-C cable uses a Powlicon PL5501 synchronous buck-boost controller paired with four Adamant synchronous buck-boost MOSFETs and is controlled by an Injoinic IP2723T protocol chip. The two ports use a Si-power SP1239EF synchronous buck converter along with HYASIC HYC5322 protocol chip for output control. The PCB is secured with screws, and components like capacitors and inductors are reinforced with adhesive.
