Introduction

The PD 3.1 fast charging standard divides power into two ranges: the Standard Power Range (SPR) and the Extended Power Range (EPR). The SPR introduces three new voltage levels—28V, 36V, and 48V—which fall under the EPR category. Each of these voltages supports a maximum output current of 5A, allowing for a maximum output power of up to 240W.

In 2021, Apple’s MacBook Pro 16 with M1 Pro/Max models came equipped with the first PD3.1 GaN charger. Since then, various laptop brands have released PD 3.1 140W adapter products. ChargerLAB recently summarized 140W PD3.1 adapters launched by five major laptop companies.
