Power Integrations (PI) has announced the launch of its highly anticipated 1700V GaN-based InnoMux-2 EP IC, marking a new benchmark in high-voltage power conversion technology. Leveraging PI’s proprietary PowiGaN platform, the IC is designed for applications requiring exceptional efficiency, compact design, and high voltage endurance. This release builds on the company’s earlier successes with 900V and 1250V GaN switches, expanding the scope of GaN's applicability in industrial, automotive, and renewable energy systems.

With its 1700V drain voltage rating, the InnoMux-2 EP IC is optimized for high-input voltage applications, including industrial power systems, solar inverters, and automotive on-board chargers. Its ability to handle up to 1000VDC input in flyback designs simplifies circuit design and eliminates the need for costly silicon carbide (SiC) transistors, making it an economical yet high-performance choice for engineers. The IC also supports up to three independently regulated outputs with a system efficiency exceeding 90%, significantly reducing energy waste.

A standout feature of the new IC is its Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) capability in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). By integrating synchronous rectification, the InnoMux-2 EP minimizes switching losses and enhances overall system reliability. Additionally, its robust safety suite includes overvoltage, thermal shutdown, and brown-in/brown-out protection, making it ideal for demanding environments where operational stability is critical.

The IC also aligns with the industry’s drive for higher integration and reduced footprint. By combining primary and secondary controllers, it eliminates the need for post-regulators and reduces bill-of-materials (BOM) costs. Engineers can design compact power supplies without sacrificing performance or regulatory compliance.

Key Specifications:

  • Drain Voltage Rating: 1700V
  • Efficiency: >90% system efficiency
  • Supported Outputs: Up to three independently regulated outputs
  • Applications: Automotive chargers, industrial power supplies, solar inverters, smart meters
  • Safety Features: Overvoltage protection, thermal shutdown, brown-in/brown-out detection
  • Switching Technology: Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) in DCM
  • Package Types: InSOP-T28G

The InnoMux-2 EP redefines the possibilities of GaN power devices, offering an optimal blend of high efficiency, durability, and design simplicity for next-generation high-voltage applications.
