Introduction

The EU has mandated that by the end of 2024, devices such as phones, tablets, headphones, e-readers, keyboards, and mice must adopt USB-C ports. By 2026, this requirement will extend to all laptops. As the world's second-largest smartphone market and with a growing PC and tablet market, India also plans to promote the widespread adoption of USB-C ports. India will mandate that all phones, tablets, and laptops must be equipped with USB-C ports by the end of 2026.

The USB-C port, known for its excellent usability and powerful functionality, has gradually become the standard port for consumer electronics. Last year, the iPhone 15 series also upgraded to USB-C, basically achieving a unified port standard for smartphones.

India is following the EU's lead in mandating the use of USB-C ports. This regulation aims to make it easier for users to charge multiple devices with a single charger and cable, reducing electronic waste and enhancing user convenience. Starting in June 2025, all phones and tablets sold in India must have USB-C ports, and by the end of 2026, this requirement will extend to laptops.

Following the EU's mandate for USB-C ports, India is taking similar steps, ensuring that devices like smartphones, tablets, and laptops will universally adopt USB-C ports. This move will improve compatibility across Android, Apple, and Windows devices, making the market for USB-C products more expansive. As more products adopt USB-C ports, the market will see significant growth.

Summary of ChargerLAB

Although the official announcement is yet to be made, the unification of USB-C ports on smart devices has become a global consensus, and it is likely that Indian authorities will confirm this soon. The ease of use and functionality of USB-C ports have gained recognition from numerous countries, allowing global consumers to benefit from a universal port. This change will facilitate international travel and contribute to global environmental efforts by reducing electronic waste.
