SouthChip has recently introduced the SC8808, a sophisticated high-voltage buck-boost controller designed to significantly enhance the efficiency and versatility of power supply systems. This advanced controller is engineered to support a wide range of input voltages from 4V to 80V, making it an ideal solution for applications requiring variable power sources. It caters particularly to systems that integrate multiple series of batteries such as lithium-ion, lithium iron phosphate, and various lead-acid batteries.

The SC8808 excels in its ability to deliver high charging currents, supporting up to 50A, which is essential for high-power applications. It also features a reverse discharge capability that enables output voltages from 5 to 48V, compatible with the PD3.1 standard output range. The controller’s maximum output current can reach up to 53A, underscoring its capability to handle demanding power management tasks effectively.

In terms of configurability, the SC8808 provides exceptional flexibility. Voltage and current settings can be adjusted via an external resistor or digitally through an I2C interface, affording engineers precision and ease during the design phase. Additionally, the chip includes current sensing capabilities, ensuring accurate monitoring of both input and output currents to enhance system reliability and safety.

Performance optimization is another key feature of the SC8808. It offers a switchable frequency range from 80KHz to 480KHz, allowing for optimization of peripheral passive components and overall efficiency. Moreover, the frequency jittering feature helps mitigate Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), making the SC8808 suitable for use in environments sensitive to electromagnetic disruptions.

  • Input Voltage Range: 4 to 80V
  • Charging Voltage Support: Up to 16 series lithium batteries, 18 series lithium iron phosphate batteries, and various lead-acid batteries
  • Maximum Charge Current: 50A
  • Output Voltage Range: 5 to 48V
  • Maximum Output Current: 53A
  • Configuration Options: External resistor or I2C
  • Switching Frequency: 80KHz to 480KHz
  • Special Features: Current sensing, frequency jittering for EMI management

The SC8808 is poised to be a game-changer in the power management industry, combining robust performance with flexible configuration options to meet the needs of complex power systems.
