SouthChip SC8808: High-Efficiency Charging Chip for Energy Storage

SouthChip has released its innovative SC8808, a high-efficiency synchronous bi-directional boost-buck charging chip tailored for the rapidly expanding energy storage market. Capable of supporting up to 80V charging voltage, the SC8808 is compatible with a wide range of batteries, including lithium-ion and lithium iron phosphate, making it a versatile choice for energy storage solutions. Beyond storage, the chip is also ideal for high-power applications like power tools, e-bikes, and docking stations, broadening its use cases significantly.

The SC8808 boasts a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 80V and dual operating modes, supporting PD3.1 EPR full-range output standards. It offers voltage adjustment capabilities from 5V to 48V with precise step tuning for PPS and EPR AVS requirements. Designed with user-friendly features, the chip allows engineers to easily configure charging and discharging parameters via an I2C interface or standalone offline mode, simplifying system development and enhancing efficiency.

Engineered for demanding scenarios, the SC8808 supports up to 50A charging/discharging current with minimal 2mΩ sampling resistance, enabling robust high-power performance. Its MPPT algorithm ensures efficient energy harvesting in solar applications, reducing system complexity and development time. The integrated 11-bit ADC enhances precision for temperature and voltage monitoring, while its high integration reduces dependency on external components, such as MCUs and comparators, resulting in cost-effective and compact system designs.

Reliability is a cornerstone of the SC8808, which operates within a broad temperature range of -40°C to 125°C and offers comprehensive protection features, including over-voltage, over-current, peak current, and over-temperature safeguards. With an impressive peak efficiency of 98%, it supports various MOSFET configurations and delivers seamless power management for high-demand applications, ensuring safe and prolonged battery life through its advanced charging management mechanism.
