The LT8708 from Analog Devices is an 80V synchronous 4-switch buck-boost DC/DC controller designed to meet the growing demand for versatile, high-efficiency power management in modern applications. This innovative controller supports input voltages that can be above, below, or equal to the output voltage, making it adaptable to a wide range of power conversion scenarios. The LT8708's bidirectional capability makes it especially suitable for energy storage and power transfer in battery systems, capacitor backup, and automotive applications.

Supporting six independent modes of regulation, the LT8708 allows for precise control of forward and reverse voltage and current, offering designers a new level of flexibility. With an input voltage range from 2.8V to 80V and an output range from 1.3V to 80V, this controller is compatible with various high-voltage systems, including 48V automotive and renewable energy applications. The chip’s efficient synchronous rectification enables conversion efficiencies of up to 99%, minimizing energy losses in demanding environments.

The LT8708 is designed to operate in several modes, including Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM), Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM), Hybrid Conduction Mode (HCM), and Burst Mode®. Users can easily switch between these modes via the MODE and DIR pins, optimizing performance based on the specific application requirements. This configurability makes the LT8708 a robust choice for both steady and burst power demands.

Packaged in a 40-lead QFN, the LT8708 is AEC-Q100 qualified, underscoring its reliability in automotive and other rigorous environments. The controller’s high efficiency, broad operating range, and bidirectional capability mark it as a leader in high-power, high-reliability applications.
