The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) recently published its latest list of smartphones certified for Qi2, the next-generation standard for wireless charging. The Qi2 protocol brings notable enhancements to wireless charging, promising better compatibility, improved stability, and a more seamless charging experience for users. As wireless charging becomes a standard feature on more devices, Qi2 aims to unify the charging ecosystem, making it easier for consumers to charge different devices using the same chargers, regardless of brand.

As of October 31, 2024, 18 smartphone models from Apple and HMD have officially received Qi2 certification. The certification list includes popular models from Apple's iPhone lineup as well as two models from HMD Global, the company that owns the rights to the Nokia brand for mobile phones. Here’s a closer look at the certified devices and what this milestone means for consumers.

Apple has long been a major proponent of wireless charging and is one of the first brands to fully embrace Qi2 certification across its recent iPhone models. According to the list compiled by ChargerLAB, every iPhone model from the iPhone 12 to the latest iPhone 15 series has received Qi2 certification. This includes both standard and Pro models, ensuring that Apple users across multiple generations will benefit from enhanced wireless charging.

HMD Global, known for producing Nokia-branded phones, has also joined the Qi2 movement, with two models certified under the new standard. The certified models, TA-1000 and TA-1688, indicate HMD’s interest in keeping pace with wireless charging innovations. While these devices may not be as widely known as Apple’s iPhone lineup, their inclusion highlights HMD’s dedication to improving user experience through standardized technology.
