Ever since Apple released its new iPhones with wireless charging capabilities last fall, the wireless charging market just exploded.  Apple is introducing their own 7.5W AirPower wireless charging pad, but due to manufacturing complexity, the AirPower has yet been launched.
Airpower will be coming to the market soon and Apple has been opening the support for 7.5W wireless fast charging through its system upgrades. While the Airpower is not out yet, Apple has also recommended a few third-party accessory brands like Mophie, Belkin, Anker, RAVPower and other well-known brands to their users.
Many iPhone users are eager to get their hands on the AirPower, but the official launch date is still unclear and will most likely set you back a couple hundred dollars. But, many users are also concerned about a third-party product’s quality and the possibility of damaging their devices.
Recently, we got out hands on some wireless chargers from Mophie, Belkin and Anker. Today, we’re going to compare their performance and see for ourselves. First of all, let’s take a look of their packaging. From the left to right are Mophie, Belkin, and Anker respectively. Side note: the Anker wireless charger, launched in MWC 2018,  is named the “Powerwave 7.5 Pad” which we will refer to as the Anker charger from here on out.

The three wireless chargers feature a round base. Mophie is in all black and its size is slightly smaller than the Belkin and Anker. It is made out of soft rubber material, giving users a skin-like texture. The Belkin is white with small LED indicators on edge. The Anker is light grey with a non-slip cushion panel as well to offer a skin-like texture. The LED indicators are placed on the edge too.
As for the size, Mophie is the smallest and the Belkin and Anker is about the same.

The Mophie has 19V/1.3A and holds CE and RCM certifications.

The Belkin’s model number is F7U027 and has the input power of15V/1.5A. It holds four different certification including CE, RCM, KC, and EAC.

This Anker model number is A2514 and has passed the FCC, RMC, CE, and RoHS certifications.

Also, only the Anker wireless charger has a built-in active cooling fan as you can see the small holes on the back. The cooling fan ensures that the charger’s charging current will not be slow down due to overheating. In short, all these three products have their own strengths. All of these chargers provide a slip-resistant coating and portable, especially the Anker, its lightweight and comes with a built-in fan.

So now let’s take a look at the power adapter. Both Mophie and Belkin come with the British plug (also has an international version) whereas the Anker comes with the US standard plug. Both the Mophie and Belkin wireless chargers offer a fixed DC voltage input, so the power adapters are like customized products, making the interchangeability hard. The Anker comes with QC3.0 standard, making it more   interchangeable. Furthermore, the Anker adopted its own patented IQ intelligent recognition technology and supports APPLE2.4A charging protocols.  Therefore, it’s compatible with iPhone, Xiaomi, Sony, Samsung, and any other phone with fast charging capabilities.

For the charging cable, the Mophie cable is 155cm, the Belkin is 150cm, and the Anker one is 90cm long. Mophie and Belkin use a circular charging plug while Anker uses a micro USB interface.

You could tell the Anker cable is made out of high quality materials, with it water droplets designs, is highly bendable and durable. It is worth mentioning that in addition to the standard charging cable, Anker also comes with a harness cable.  Next, we are going to see the actual performance of this product.

Test tools: the FLIR temperature tester, power meter, our POWER-Z KT001, KM001, and the Power-Z wireless charge receiving board.

Since Mophie, Belkin uses a circular DC interface, it is impossible to test. So, we are going to test Anker’s performance. After testing the Anker with the POWER-Z KT001, we concluded it supports Apple2.4A, QC2.0, QC3.0, and USB DCP protocols; and the performance was good.

Then we take a look at the power consumption. The Mophie wireless charger is about 1.1W.

Belkin’s overall power consumption is about 1.05W.

While the Anker wireless charger is activated, the built-in cooling fan will also turn on, so its overall power consumption is slightly higher at about 1.89W.

In the test, we tried to test the alignment at a number of angles and all three of the wireless chargers can be accurately identified with high sensitivity. Also, it can even charge the phone with a phone case on. Other than that, the phone still does have reception while charging.

Now, let’s take a look at charging speed. We use an iPhone with the latest system update (iOS11.2.6) and then tested it on all 3 of the chargers, the Mophie, Belkin, and Anker at room temperature (~77ºF/25℃). Then, we used the The POWER-Z Power Meter to collect the relevant voltage and current data for the input power.

If you first look at the wireless charger power curve, you see  Mophie and Belkin maintains a constant power time initially, first 15 mins, then the power fluctuates between high and low power. Anker’s power curve is more stable than the Mophie and Belkin. Its high-power charging is longer, which cuts down on the amount of time the phone needs to fully charge. Side note: engineers have said because of its active cooling fan, the Anker’s charging power is stronger and more efficient when compared to others.

We used the following cell phone power curve to further analysis their charging speed for the iPhone 8 Plus. The first 15 minutes did show much of a difference (high-power charging). After a hour, the phone charged by the Anker wireless charger reached  47% battery level whereas the phone when charged with the Mophie and Belkin were only at 34%. In total, it took the Anker charger 3 hours and 12 mins to fully charge the iPhone 8 Plus while the Belkin and Mophie charger took 3 hours and 42 mins/3 hours and 51 mins respectively.

When comparing the temperature curves, after an hour of charging, they were all similar and hovered at around 97ºF/36 ℃. The temperature of three chargers dropped after 1.5 hours of charging. The Anker charger dropped the most, 86ºF/30 ℃ after 3 hours of charging.  The other two went down to 93-95ºF/34-35 ℃. It seems like the Anker do better with temperature control due to its built-in cooling fan.


  • Regarding the design, all three look pretty similar. All the wireless chargers adopted a flat design, which makes them more portable, and  use slip-resistant coating and anti-scratch materials.
  • As for the performance, all three products support wireless charging at all angles. The Anker comes with a built-in active cooling fan, which better controls the temperature while charging, especially after the first 15 minutes. Anker can charge the iPhone 8 Plus at least half an hour faster than either the Mophie or Belkin.
  • As for charging accessories, the three wireless chargers is equipped with a power adapter. However, it is necessary to point out that the Anker uses a more common QC3.0 charger and micro USB data cable, making it more interchangeable than the Mophie and the Belkin.
