We already reviewed one of XiaoMi’s car charger previously, but they recently came out with another one called SmartMi. So today, we are going to take a closer look at this one as well. The  new power inverter car charger is called smartmi.
The Unboxing
The charger comes in a long rectangular box.

An image of the charger is on the upper left corner of the package. Overall, it’s a pretty simple packaging design.

The charger is placed in a plastic protective bag to avoid scratches.

The smartmi logo is printed on the front of the car charger.

Each corner of the base is protected by silicone feet.

Product specifications:

USB output: 5V / 3A, 9V / 2A, 12V / 1.5A (supports fast charging)
The output ports are placed on the other side. It can be used either vertical or horizontal.

The Testing
Test with 12V of input power.

Used the ChargerLab POWER-Z FL001SUPER to test the USB output protocol. It supports QC2.0 and QC3.0.

Connect the charger to the battery fuel gauge; it showed the output voltage of 217.5V.  When  using the ChargerLab POWER-Z FL001SUPER to connect to the XiaoMi 65W PD power, and it worked just fine.

Charging RAV pd mobile power 31W directly with the XiaoMi 65W PD power via the inverter.

Quan has 10000mAh Red with 40W of input power.

It seems the USB port does not support the iPhone 7 Plus.

Use the ChargerLab POWER-Z FL001SUPER to test the input power with the Leco Max 2 (22W QC3.0).

Use the ChargerLab POWER-Z FL001SUPER to test the Quan Han Red (QC2.0 input mode 17W).

The Quan 20000 itself does not support QC input, 5V2.7A.

The Smartisan mobile power bank use the 2-in-1 Xiaomi cable QC3.0 to charge the device with a power voltage of 10V.

Charge the Zimi MF885 WIFI device. Showed a power voltage of 9.26V, 2.02A, and 18.78W.

The Dismantling
You can see two screws after removing two of the silicon feet.

One screw comes with a red sticker.

Hexagonal nickel-plated screws.

After taking off the outer casing, you can see the inner structure. The entire component can be pulled out after unscrewing the screws.

Such neat and clean craftsmanship.

There is an input of a 15A fuse.

The cooling fan, blowing outward to keep the charger from overheating.


The DC input use crimps connection to facilitate cable with different length.

The fan is directly connected to the motherboard, similar to the dual-wire computer motherboard.

There are positive and negative marked on the circuit board to avoid confusion.

Removed the fan, case, and fairings.

The specification of the Taiwan Wing Li cooling fan (12V / 0.11A, 3012).

Cooling fan has a thickness of 1.2 cm.

The small board is responsible for the USB fast charge output. The 4 MOS tubes in the picture are responsible for modulating the output. The R120 constantan resistor in the middle of the two heat sinks is used for over-current detection, and the green thermostat at the bottom is responsible for detecting the temperature of the transformer.

The back of the USB fast charging plate features a light.

The copper output is directly soldered to the circuit board; making it strong and reliable.

There is a TL494 on the back, with a 2902 4 operational amplifier.

ON Semiconductor LM2902DG is used for measuring the input current limit, and the temperature control fan.

This amplifier is commonly used. You can see that the charger uses red glue to help wave the soldering process. 1117-12V three-terminal regulator is on the left.

Output rectifier is used to boost the AC rectifier of the inverter’s output voltage.

Input boost, two AOTF260, the middle of the green by the right side of the thermistor, the lower left corner of the Lilian solid capacitors, withstanding voltage 25V470μF.

Withstand voltage 60V; resistance three milliohms used to boost the voltage.

Another one is TL494; it is used to control the input of two AOTF26.

ON Semiconductor NCP4371 QC3.0 is used for IC recognition. A built-in buck switch NCP3170 to meet the fast charging standards.
Conclusion
SmartMi car charger features input fuse plus sample resistance to avoid the occurrence of over-current. There is a transformer for thermistor temperature detection and to avoid damage caused by overheating components. The cooling fan regulates temperature control to effectively prevent the internal fouling caused by long-term rotation. The internal fairing is added to maximize the cooling effect. Overall, this is a very high quality product.
