OPPO is a major smartphone company in Asia. You may not hear about it a lot if you are located in other regions even though it has a global market share of 8.4%, ranked fourth among all smartphone manufactures. OPPO and the brand we are familiar with, OnePlus have the same parent company, BBK Electronics, and they share supply chains and technologies in their smartphone products. That is why we often see OPPO and OnePlus phones that look and function very similar.
Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) is an organization founded in 2008 and it created and promoted the well-known universal wireless charging standard Qi that adopted by most flagship smartphones from Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Google, LG and many others.
In order to produce products with Qi certification, a manufacture need to be member of WPC. We just learned from WPC that OPPO obtained the membership very recently and it already appeared in member section on WPC website. It has a large possibility there will be a OPPO smartphone with wireless charging compatibility coming very soon as we were told in a private event hosted by OPPO last year that their 15W wireless charging technology has been developed and ready to use.
We have seen many OnePlus and OPPO flagships carry the same features in the past, so the next generation of OnePlus phone, the OnePlus 7 probably will get wireless charging as well.
